A jubilant Costa Rican press on Wednesday celebrated that the Central American country's soccer team has been invited to participate in the 2011 America's Cup which will be held in Argentina on July 1-24.
The invitation has already been accepted by the Costa Rican Soccer Federation (Fedefutbol).
"Towards Argentina," declared the leading daily "La Republica" in a headline that covered most of the front page, and said the invitation had come after "weeks of uncertainty" and was only confirmed after the Japanese team had declined to participate.
"Sparing no time to lose, the Fedefutbol acted like this: The letter of invitation for the America Cup 2011 arrived in the morning and by the afternoon it had replied yes," said La Republica, while the daily Al Dia said "Here we come America Cup" and detailed the preparation the national team will go through to perform at their best.
All other papers in Costa Rica also carried the news of Costa Rica's participation as their main front page news.
