Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho finally got the center forward he has spent the past season asking for as the club confirmed a signing of Manchester City forward Emmanuel Adebayor on Tuesday.
The Togo international has joined Real Madrid on a loan deal for which the Spanish side will pay a fee of around 2.5 million US dollars. Madrid also has the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season for a fee of around 20 million dollars.
Adebayor will fill the role of the number 9 that Jose Mourinho asked for before the start of the current season. The back injury suffered by Gonzalo Higuain in November saw Mourinho redouble his efforts to convince the club to sign a new forward and helped cause the breakdown of his relationship with General Director, Jorge Valdano.
Adebayor has not been without his moments of controversy in recent years. The 26-year-old has been a fringe player at Manchester City this season and last year was suspended after charging down the pitch to celebrate a goal in front of his former club, Arsenal as well as stamping on former teammate Robin Van Persie.
On his return to action he soon picked up a further ban after being sent off against Stoke City in the FA Cup.
Adebayor scored a total of 15 goals in 34 appearances for Manchester City and before that he netted 46 times in 104 games for Arsenal.
