Mexico's Carlos Salcido was voted the Man of the Match when Mexico beat France 2-0 in their second World Cup Group A match on Thursday.
Salcido is perhaps not a household name for those who follow the major leagues in Europe. But on Thursday evening, the Mexico left-back was a touch above the others. The 30-year-old was the best player on the pitch as he ran France ragged down his flank.
Salcido looked comfortable when he was defending and while he was on his marauding runs. The versatile PSV Eindhoven defender who can also double up as a centre-back was a huge support to his forwards and regularly made his way into the France penalty box.
Although he didn't look particularly attack-minded as the match advanced into its latter stages, the former Guadalajara left-back had already done his job and had left the France defenders in tatters. He was so outstanding that Sidney Govou didn't find anything past him.
