Korean teenager Kim Woo-jin was awarded the Mt Kunlun World Record Award on Wednesday, as he set a new mark during qualifying in men's individual archery at the Guangzhou Asian Games on Saturday.

The 18-year-old Kim shot 1,387 points to beat his teammate Oh Jin-hyek's 144 arrow outdoor recurve record of 1,386, which was set at Ulsan, Korea, in September 2009.

Kim is the second athlete to win this award at the games. He was awarded a special trophy and $10,000.

Chinese weightlifter Li Ping became the first athlete in Asian Games history to win the award, as she set two world records on the way to defending her title in the women's -53kg weightlifting class on Nov 14.

The award is sponsored by the JDB Group, which provides the official drinking water, Kunlun Mountain natural mineral water, at the Asiad.

It is the first time the Asian Games has offered such an award to athletes.
