Softball derives from US in 1887 and was first contested to Olympic in 1996, Atlantic. In 1990 it was included in 11th Asian Games Sport Program in Beijing.

The competition area consists of infield and outfield. Infield is square and with red sand, each corner with a base. Outside the infield is outfield with grass. The distance between the bases in the infield is 18.3m, and the distance between the pitcher board and the home base is 13.1m. The boundary line is 67.06m.

Softball and baseball have quite similar rules; the main differences are that softball play with bigger ball, in smaller field, underhand bowl, etc. Two teams of nine players take it in turns to bat through seven innings each. The team with most scores wins at the end of seven innings. If draws after seven innings, then extra time will involves until one team wins. The fielding team named according to their position in the field: pitcher, catcher, first baseman, second baseman, third baseman, shortstop, left fielder, center fielder and right fielder. The batting team comes to the infield according to the regulated order.
