The modern game of handball was first played in 1848, Denmark. Men’s and women’s handball (seven) became the discipline of Olympics in 1972 and 1976, and it became an official sport in the 9th Asian Games in Delhi, 1982. The handball court is rectangular, 40m x 20m. A match consists of two periods of 30 minutes and a half-time interval of 10 minutes. In each half, each time can have a chance of 1-minute break-off. If the game is tied at the end of the regular playing time, overtime is played following a 5-minute break. The overtime period consists of 2 halves of 5 minutes, with a 1-minute half-time break. If the game is again tied after a first overtime period, a second period is played after a 5-minutes break. This overtime period also has 2 halves of 5 minutes, with a 1-minute half-time break. If the game is still tied, the winner will be determined in accordance with the rules for the particular competition, in the case that the decision is to use 7-meter-throwing as tie-breaker to decide a winner. |
