Guangzhou hopes to enhance soft power through AsiadAn introductory meeting for the Asian Games and Asian Para Games was held at the Sanyu Hotel, Guangzhou on Sept. 26.
According to Tian Xinde, vice secretary-general of Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee, preparations for the upcoming November 12-27 Asian Games and December 12-19 Asian Para Games are coming to completion. The work includes venue construction, sports entry, opening and closing ceremonies, the torch relay, transportation, security, etiquette, and air-quality control.
Wang Xiaoling, director of the Guangzhou Publicity Department, also addressed the meeting. She said that Guangzhou aims to enhance its soft power through this massive event. Many public activities have been organized to attract citizen participation and to educate them about Guangzhou's cultural resources. The Organizing Committee's Culture and Ceremonies Department Director He Jiqing said the Games will showcase the cultural resources and personality of Guangzhou, especially through its performances during the opening and closing ceremonies.
For example, he added, unlike the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, in which the theme song was released on the day of the opening ceremony, the song for Asian Games will be released on Sept. 30 and be chosen through citizen voting. |
