The Serie A Players' Association (AIC) confirmed on Wednesday that this weekend's strike will be called off following lengthy discussions between league representatives and the Football Players'Association.
The AIC had called a strike for the weekend of December 11-12 in protest at the failure to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement, but talks went on for seven hours on Tuesday.
"We are taking advantage of the public holiday to check with the players if this deal is acceptable," explained AIC Vice-President Leonardo Grosso.
A full program of fixtures is planned for this weekend and television broadcasters and the league schedule would be thrown into disarray were games to be called off.
A collective contract between the association and the league guaranteeing players' rights expired in pre-season and attempts to draft a new deal have faltered.
Top-flight performers fear for the increasing trend of clubs forcing transfers once a player enters the final year of his contract and is deemed surplus to requirements.
