China powered past Cuba in four sets in the women's world volleyball championship in Tokyo on Saturday.
China lost the first set to their opponents with considerable margins. But the Chinese rallied in the second set to gain the upper hand over Cuba. China maintained the momentum in the following two sets and defeated Cuba 25-19, 25-22.
The Chinese crushed Poland and Peru in two key matches earlier this week. But the victories only enabled China to compete for the ninth spot in the championship because of the losses in the first round.
