At home in the Pacaembu stadium, star striker Ronaldo shinned in Corinthians' 4-0 win against Avai on Wednesday in the 33rd round of the Brazilian Championship.
With two goals, Ronaldo marked his fourth consecutive game played this year, a first in 2010.
Corinthians' first goal came in the 19th minute of play. Catching keeper Ze Carlos off guard, Bruno Cesar blasted a long range shot into the upper left corner of the goal, scoring an amazing goal. Elias snuck behind the Avai defense and received a great pass from Alessandro and then slipped the ball by the goalie to increase the lead in the 65th minute.
Ronaldo went on the score Corinthians' next two goals. His first came in the 84th minute when he received a ball at the top of the goalie box, angled the ball and flew it into the lower right corner of the Avai goal. In the 90th minute, the veteran striker converted on a penalty kick after Dentinho was tackled to the ground by Dinelson.
The win improves Corinthians to second place of the tournament with 57 points. With five rounds of play remaining, the trails first place Fluminense by one point. In the 34th round of play, the team will travel across town to face rival Sao Paulo on November 7.
Avai remains in a troubling eighteenth place with 33 points. In the next round of play, the team will receive Botafogo on November 7.
