Mardan ready for battle at WGC-HSBC Champions

Singapore's Mardan Mamat is buoyed with confidence after enjoying a resurgent in form and he believes that he will be in for another shot at glory at this week's WGC-HSBC Champions which starts on Thursday.
The 43-year-old Singaporean came close to winning his third Asian Tour title against an elite field in Malaysia last week and is undeterred by the presence of stars who have all gathered at the Sheshan International Golf Club for the fourth and final World Golf Championships of the season.
"It's nice to play a tournament with all the big boys but for me it's just another week of golf and hopefully I can play good and enjoy my time here in Shanghai," said Mardan who is currently ranked seventh on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
Billed as the ‘champions of champions' title, the WGC-HSBC Champions will see tournament winners from all around the world representing 20 countries who have won over 500 international titles between them and 30 Major Championships.
While the spotlight maybe on Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer taking part in a fascinating battle for the top spot on the Official World Golf Rankings, Mardan, a two-time winner on the Asian Tour is more focused on playing his own game and doing well.
"I'm feeling very confident about my game at the moment. It's good to be riding on such good form especially when I'm playing in all the big events that are coming up," said Mardan who holds the distinction of being Singapore's first winner on the Asian Tour and the first player from the city-state to win a co-sanctioned tournament with Europe.
Although Mardan is at the top of his game now, he is also wary of the weather elements that might put a dent to his title hopes this week.
"The key to playing well is to stay warm. The weather here can get very cold and I'm not that good with playing in cold weather. The most important thing this week is to keep warm and play one shot at a time," said the Singaporean.
