Schalke put their Bundesliga woes behind them - where they are rooted in the relegation zone - as two goals from Raul and a third from Jose Manuel Jurado helped Felix Magath's side beat Hapoel Tel-Aviv 3-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Schalke are now second in Group B on six points, three behind leaders Lyon, who enjoyed a 2-0 win at home to Benfica.
Schalke caught Tel Aviv at Allianz Area on the hop when the Germans opened the scoring with only three minutes into the match. Raul netted the opener thanks to a pass through by striker mate Klaas Jan Huntelaar inside penalty area.
The early goal shocked the guests from Tel Aviv whereas Schalke retracted with the lead behind.
However, Schalke turned up and striker Raul doubled the lead at the 59th minute to mark his historical 68th Champions League goal in the eternal scorer list.
"The top position of the eternal Champions League scorer ranking is irrelevant for me. Relevant is the deserved victory for Schalke", striker Raul said after the deserved victory.
Ten minutes later another Spaniard donated a goal namely midfielder Jose Manuel Juardo to make it 3-0 on the scoreboards with a hammer from 16 meters. That was the final decision but Tel Aviv was able to score the consolation goal during additional time after a free kick. Tel Aviv striker Itay Shechter utilized the confusion inside Schalke penalty area to poke the ball home from close distance.
