Barcelona extends contracts of Spain internationals Xavi, Pedro

Spanish BBVA Primera Liga champions FC Barcelona announced on Wednesday that it has reached agreement to extend the contracts of two of its star players.
Winger Pedro Rodriguez and midfielder Xavi Hernandez have both signed new agreements with the club.
Xavi has signed a contract which extends his previous deal that was due to expire in June 2014. The new agreement means that Xavi will see his contract automatically extended until June 2015 if he plays 50 percent of Barcelona's matches in the 2013-14 season. That deal will continue until June 2016 if he plays half of the games in the 2014-15 campaign, by which time the Spain international will be 36 years old and will have spent 25 years at the club he joined when he was just 11.
Pedro meanwhile has added another year onto his former contract, which was due to expire in June 2014. His buyout clause has also been increased to 90 million Euros (107 million US dollars).
The 22-year-old was the revelation of the season in Spain. He began the season as a fringe player in the Barcelona first team squad, but made himself a fixture in the side coached by Pep Guardiola, scoring 12 goals in the league. He ended the season with 23 goals in all competitions and also achieved a World record of scoring a goal in the six competitions Barcelona played in 2009 (Copa del Rey, Primera Liga, Spanish Supercup, Champions League, European Supercup and World Club Championships).
Those performances have earned him a place in the Spain squad for the World Cup finals and he scored his first international goal in Spain's 6-0 win over Poland on Tuesday night.
