Over on the women's side, Venus Williams, again the centre of attention at Roland Garros on Wednesday. Williams, the women's second seed, overpowered tricky Spaniard Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-2 6-4, advancing to the third round.

And due to the heavy rain on the day four, Chinese star Li Na's second round match was delayed. She will take on France's Stephanie Cohen-Aloro on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in women's doubles, Zheng Jie and Yung-Jan Chan took an easy win over Akgul Amanmuradova and Galina Voskoboeva 6-1, 6-1. Zheng, is also getting ready for her second round singles match at this year's French Open.
