Spain striker Fernando Torres said Tuesday that he is confident of being 100 percent fit for the FIFA World Cup finals.

Torres underwent an operation on his meniscus ligament following an injury he picked up playing for Liverpool in the Europa League.

The injury caused him to miss the end of the domestic season in England and put his participation in the World Cup in doubt. He has been doing specific recovery work since then and speaking in Tuesday's edition of Spanish sports paper Marca, he cast aside any doubts over his fitness.

"I am very good and pleased with the way the injury is progressing. I have had two operations since January and it is not easy. The objective was to be fit in six or seven weeks and I am at the start of the sixth week," said Torres.

"I will do some days of specific work and if all goes well I will be 100 percent fit for the start of the World Cup," he said.

Torres predicted that he would be able to train with the rest of Vicente del Bosque's squad. "There is time to spare and there will be on problems in being perfectly fit. It will be even better if I am able to get some time in friendly matches," he added, targeting preparations games against South Korea and Portugal.

If the forward, who scored the winning goal for Spain in the final of the 2008 European Championship, is confident of recovering now, he admitted that he had passed some nervous moments

"I was worried when it happened, but when I knew the extent of the injury, I was a lot more relaxed. The coach has to take the players who are in the best shape, but I was in touch with the Spanish Federation every day. Everyone knew how I was progressing and that helps you stay calm," he admitted.
