Fernandao led Sao Paulo to a 2-0 victory over his former team Internacional on Sunday in the Brazilian Championship third round on Sunday.
The victory was Sao Paulo's first of the 2010 tournament.
Hernanes scored the first goal in the 37th minute as he fired it into the Internacional wall of defenders on a stopped ball before it deflected off and returned to Hernanes who sent a one-timer into the goal.
Fernandao scored in the 62nd minute when the striker received the ball from Hernanes and proceeded to send it past the Internacional goalie Abbondanzieri.
"I love to please the fans. Everyone knows my affinity for the Internacional soccer club. I experienced some great times at Internacional," Fernandao said.
"However, while playing for Sao Paulo, I had to commemorate my goal today. I played quite well in my first two games with Sao Paulo, but today was my first goal with the team. I am extremely happy," he added.
Both teams will prepare for their rematch in the semifinals of the Liberadores Cup.
The first leg will be held at Internacional on July 28. Sao Paulo will host the return leg on August 4. The delay of continuation in the Libertadores Cup is due to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
In the 4th round of the Brazilian Championship, Sao Paulo will host Palmeiras on May 26 while Internacional will travel to play Vasco da Gama on May 27.
