The Corinthians soccer team hosted the Uruguayan team of Racing on Wednesday night in the team's opener of the 2010 Libertadores Cup.
By the score of 2-1, Corinthians came from behind to win their first match of the tournament. Corinthians has never won the Cup, but hopes that 2010 will be the magical year.
The Uruguayans got off to a quick start. In the 1st minute of play, Brascesco crossed a ball towards the Corinthians net. The Corinthians defense left Cauteruccio open and the player punished them, easily knocking the ball into the net and silencing the Corinthians' fans.
Corinthians responded in the 10th minute when Ronaldo dribbled down the center of the field. The striker passed the ball to Tcheco who then cleverly rolled a no-look heal pass to Elias who sent the ball underneath a diving Racing goalkeeper, Contreras.
Corinthians took the lead in the 69th minute. Ronaldo set up the play once again, this time passing the ball off to Souza who then assisted a cutting Elias in scoring his second goal of the match when he blew the ball into the upper left corner of Contreras' net.
With their win, Corinthians stands in the first place of Group 1 after the first round of play. Due to the 1-1 draw between Cerro Porteno e Independente Medellin, along with Racing's loss, Corinthians stands alone with 3 points and atop the group.
