Playing at home in their debut of the 2010 Libertadores Cup against Universidad de Chile, Flamengo won their first test 2-0 on Wednesday.
The team began their search for their second Libertadores Cup title in 10 years.
Despite beginning the match with the expulsion of Willians after an unsportsmanlike foul, Flamengo was able to score in the 10th minute.
Off a stopped ball at the top of the penalty box, Leonardo Moura skillfully placed a curing ball over the defensive wall of Chileans and into the upper left corner of the net.
Flamengo's Adriano scored his first goal of the tournament in the 58th minute. Leonardo Moura lofted ball from midfield towards a streaking Adriano. The striker arrived at the ball just in time to push it through the middle of the fullback and approaching goalkeeper, watching as the ball rolled into the open net.
In the 37th minute, Vagner Love was tackled in front of the net after receiving a great ball from Adriano. The striker took the penalty kick and missed the opportunity, floating the ball over the center of the net.
With their 2-0 victory, Flamengo finished their first game of the year without giving up a goal. Flamengo returns to action in the Libertadores Cup on March 10 when they travel to play the Venezuelan team, Caracas.
Before then, Flamengo will travel to face Macae in their first game of the second half of the Rio de Janeiro state championship on February 27.
