South Africa's coach, Carlos Alberto Parreira has confirmed that he plans to select the bulk of his World Cup squad from a pool of players based in South Africa.
The South Africa-based squad impressed in a training match victory over Swaziland on Saturday and then swept aside Zimbabwe 3-0 in an international friendly on Wednesday. Both matches were played in Durban, South Africa.
After these performances Parreira said big-name players who play abroad will have to show they can ensure game time at their respective clubs, according to Football365 on Thursday.
"We have only one overseas-based player who is playing every week and that is Steven Pienaar and who is on the top of his game. The others are not regular starters for their clubs", he told Football365.
"Maybe I will select six of them. Pienaar is in and if Benni McCarthy should get more game time he will be selected.
"Others we might need are Tsepo Masilela who plays in Israel, MacBeth Sibaya and Kagiso Dikgacoi if they are fit and willing to play in the World Cup.
Parreira admitted he was concerned by Bernard Parker's lack of regular action at Steve McClaren's FC Twente. "But I am worried about Bernard Parker who is not playing for his club in Holland," he added.
