Host China took a surprising win by pocketing the men's team sprint gold at the Beijing stop of the UCI track cycling World Cup on Friday.
Chinese men's track cycling team seldom managed to make a dent in the international events. All the three riders hailed from the squad of Shandong team, champion in the 11th National Games last year.
The hosts finished the three-lap race with 44.237 seconds in the final and upset Team Jayco, a professional team made up of members of the Cycling Australia, to take the gold.
France, silver medallist in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, took the bronze after trouncing Moscow Track Team in the 3-4 placement.
