Mexican midfielder Ramon Morales confirmed on Thursday he had left Chivas, the most famous national soccer club based in central Mexican city Guadalajara, where he has been captain since 2006.
Broadcasters showed Morales in tears as he left Chivas' Verde Valle training ground. He made a brief statement to waiting journalists that he would speak properly later.
Morales has been with the team since 1999 and was a mainstay of the squad from 2003 until last year, holding 29 and 35 appearances each season. He has six months remaining on his contract.
Morales has only played for one other team in his career, which is Monterrey from northern Mexico from 1995 to 1999.
Mexican media have said that he will probably be transferred to Chivas USA, based in the city of Carson in California.
Mexico's Chivas ended last season 14th in Mexico's 18-team league, having won just five of the 17 games it played.
Chivas USA is fourth in the eight-team western group of the US MSL.
