Japanese midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura will transfer from Celtic to Espanyol after he failed to talk through with his former club Yokohama Marinos over a possible return, reported local media on Monday.
According to Jiji Press, the 31-year-old midfielder's agent has already informed Espanyol about his intention to move to the Spanish side, which has offered 1.2 million euros a year (1.7 million dollars).
Nakamura, whose contract with the former Scottish champions Celtic expires at the end of this month, had initially expressed his readiness to re-sign with the Marinos but was stalled over disagreement over financial matters and other details.
Yokohama had offered him a two-and-a-half-year deal with an annual wage of 150 million yen (1.6 million dollars), said Japanese media.
Having stayed in Europe for the past seven seasons, Nakamura, who spent the first three years with Italy's Reggina before moving to Celtic, helped the Glasgow side win and defend the Scottish Premier League title from 2006 to 2008.
