New Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini assured on Monday that the club had not made a mistake in naming him as the man to guide the team's destiny next season.
The former Villarreal coach agreed a two-year contract as Real Madrid coach on Monday. He is Florentino Perez's first appointment after Perez returned as Real Madrid president earlier in the day.
Pellegrini joined Madrid after coaching Villarreal for five seasons, during which Villarreal qualified for the Champions League on two separate occasions.
"I knew that one day I would end up coaching Real Madrid," said Pellegrini on Real Madrid Television.
"I have had the good fortune that Florentino has put his faith in me to look after this great project and that I arrive here with the correct amount of experience. I am convinced they have chosen the correct person," added the 55-year-old who has coached many clubs during his career, including Argentine side River Plate.
Real Madrid is the biggest side Pellegrini has coached and he arrived before the club launches a campaign to sign players such as Frank Ribery, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka.
Pellegrini said that his experience of coaching in Spain will be vital for him at his new club.
"I have the experience of these five years in Spain. There is always pressure at big clubs. They demand the best from you Sunday after Sunday," he said.
