Wang opens with 3-1 win in Asian Cup table tennis

Newly crowned world champion Wang Hao opened with a 3-1 win over South Korean Jeong Sang Eun in the Asian Cup table tennis tournament on Tuesday.

The world's top-ranked Chinese, who beat his teammate and three-time world champion Wang Liqin in the world championship final in Yokohama, Japan early this month, downed Jeong 11-6, 5-11, 11-6, 11-5 to clinch his first group A match.

Chinese Ma Long made short work of South Korean Seo Hyun Deok, winning his Group B game 11-5, 11-6, 11-7.

In the women's action, Chinese world championship bronze medalist Li Shiwen and Singapore's Feng Tianwei both won their openers.

The 60,000 U.S. dollars Asian Cup attracted 16 men's and as many women's players from eight Asian teams, namely, China, Japan, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Singapore, India, Thailand and Hong Kong of China.
