Defending champions Osaka Gamba (blue) edged China's Shandong Luneng 1-0 to keep their 100 percent record intact on Wednesday. |
Gamba, who had already qualified for the knockout stage from Group F, have won all five of their matches so far while The Chinese Super League champions need a win to reach the last 16.
The loss leaves the Luneng on seven points alongside South Korea's FC Seoul with one match to go in the group.
After a goalless first half, Osaka Gamba came back strongly after the interval. Severino Lucas scored the only goal in the 58th minute.
The top-placed team in each of the eight groups will play at home against one of the second-placed sides in the one-leg round of 16, which will be held in the west zone on May 27 and the east zone on June 24.
