Swedish swimmer Therese Alshammar set a new world record in the 50 meters butterfly in an Australian world championship trials on Tuesday.

The Swede shaved two hundredths of a second off her own previous best to swim in 25.44. She set the former mark in June, 2007.

The 31-year-old is swimming at the Australian meet as a training foreigner, and will not be allowed to compete in the semi-finals or finals.
