Spanish sides Valencia and Deportivo La Coruna both had bad fortunes in the first leg of their respective UEFA Cup ties on Wednesday.
Spain's only two survivors in the competition played away in the last 32 round, with Valencia held to a 1-1 draw by Dynamo Kiev while Deportivo suffering a 3-0 loss.
David Silva gave Valencia an early lead, scoring off Juan Mata's right cross.
But before being sent off, Kiev striker Artem Milevskiy fired the ball across the penalty area, where it struck Raul Albiol and deflected past Valencia goalkeeper Cesar to earn the home side a draw.
Anders Due struck twice to help Denmark's Aalborg earn three second-half goals against Deportivo. Michael Jakobsen wrapped up the 3-0 victory for the Danish side.
