Defending Paralympic champion Imrich Lyocsa of Slovakia eased into the quarterfinals by defeating Japan's Hasegawa Takahiro, 100-94.
Lyocsa dominated from the start, getting the better of his opponent in three of the four ends.
Top seed Mario Esposito of Italy slipped by An Tae-sung (ROK), 101-98, in what was a nail-biting encounter.
China's Dong Zhi beat Athens 2004 silver medalist Tomasz Lezanski of Poland, 108-102 to make it through to the next round.
Men's Individual Recurve - Open (1-8 elimination round)
In what was arguably the most exciting clash of the day, top seed John Stubbs of Great Britain broke the Paralympic Record and skewered Eric Bennett of the United States, 117-114, to make it through to the quarterfinals.
Stubbs hit the bull's eye nine times in his record breaking performance. For his part, Bennett offered stiff resistance, hitting the bull's eye five times.
Pre-competition favorite Kevin Evans of Canada edged out Pavlo Nazar of Ukraine, 110-109, in a squeaker.
Evans' score of 28 points in the fourth end proved decisive and helped him edge past his opponent who only managed 25 points.
In a further match, Alberto Simonelli of Italy stalemated second seed Lee Ouk-soo (ROK), 115-112.
Women's Individual Recurve - W1/W2 (1-8 elimination round)
Second seed Fu Hongzhi of China easily whipped Britain's Kathleen Smith Critchlow, 97-75, to qualify for the quarterfinals.
Fourth seed Gizem Girismen of Turkey erased Lenka Kuncova of Czech Republic, 103-85. Girismen dominated the match from the start with a combination of nine's and a ten to maintain the pressure.
