Fatma Omar Omar of Egypt smashed the world and Paralympic records on Wednesday, September 10, lifting a massive 141.5 kilograms in the Women's Powerlifting 56 kilogram category.
She broke her own world record of 141.0kg, set at the 2006 World Championships in Pusan, Republic of Korea.
In a hat-trick of new records, Omar lifted 135kg in her third attempt to break the 131kg record she had set in her second attempt, which in turn broke the 130kg Paralympic record she set at the Athens Paralympics.
She won a gold medal in this category in Athens after winning the 44kg category at the Sydney Paralympic Games.
Irina Kazantseva of Russia produced a very good lift of 95kg and then lifted 97.5kg to take the silver medal, followed by Malaysia's Siow Lee Chan taking the Bronze medal by lifting 87.5kg, 92.5kg and 95kg in her three attempts.
The Powerlifting events continue on Wednesday afternoon with the Men's -52kg category at the BUAA Gymnasium.
