Darren Kenny of Great Britain smashed his own world record by a staggering 5.812 seconds to reach an eagerly anticipated final to be held Sunday afternoon, September 7, in which the British race ace could go even faster.
He takes on Jin Yong-sik of the Republic of Korea to decide gold and silver after the second favorite in the event, Javier Ochoa of Spain, was disqualified for breaching the rule that states that a rider, once overtaken, cannot subsequently overtake the leading rider.
Ochoa's disqualification lets in Canada's Jean Quevillon, who had the fifth fastest time in the qualifying round, to take on Spain's Maurice Far Eckhard in the bronze medal race.
