A woman who intruded into the field of the National Stadium and tried to strip off her upper clothing during the athletes parade of the Beijing Paralympics opening has been found to have mental problems, a Games spokesperson said overnight.

"Relevant departments have found out that the woman, who came from Guangdong Province, is a psychiatric patient," said Wang Hui, head of the publicity department of the Beijing Organizing Committee of the 29th Olympic Games (BOCOG), at a press conference following the opening ceremony of the Beijing Paralympic Games.

"When the athletes were marching in the stadium, the woman suddenly intruded into the ground and attempted to strip herself. The stadium staff took notice of her action and stopped her in time," she added.

It was just an individual indecent conduct, said Wang, giving no further details.

Following the incident, the woman was persuaded to leave the stadium, sources told Xinhua earlier on Saturday night.

The Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games were declared open on Saturday night by Chinese President Hu Jintao in the National Stadium, better known as the Bird's Nest, in north Beijing, following a 1.5-hour parade involving more than 4,000 athletes from 147 countries and regions and a dazzling art performance.
