The US-India partnership shows interdependency between the two nations, which may bring difficulties for China's diplomatic efforts in South Asia. However, India is not a US ally and is also under influence of Russia. Self interest is India's primary motive for cooperating with the U.S. As the leader of the non-aligned movement, it is not expected to establish an official alliance with the U.S.
The international media, led by the U.S., exaggerated India's global role, as it remains only a regional power. As a result, it's safe to say that any pressure from the US-India partnership on China will be limited.
The future competition for international status comes down to diplomatic capabilities, but more important will be comprehensive national strength and managerial abilities. China should care more about quality than quantity, especially relating to its governing skill and the level of satisfaction in society. Domestic stability and the people's support are the essential guarantees of China's continued economic development.
