Lots were drawn at the Swissôtel Hong Kong Macau Center in Beijing on June 16 to determine the grouping of the handball tournaments for the Beijing Olympics.

The following are the results of the draw:

On the men's side, Poland, France, Croatia, China, Spain and Brazil will compete in Pool A; Germany, Denmark, Russia, the Republic of Korea, Iceland and Egypt will compete in Pool B.

On the women's side, Norway, Romania, France, China, Angola and Kazakhstan will compete in Pool A; Russia, Germany, Hungary, the Republic of Korea, Sweden and Brazil will compete in Pool B.
