A couple of torchbearers extended their romance on Friday when the Beijing Olympic torch toured Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province.
The couple, Liu Shufen and Wu Zhenxing, came to the spotlight in the relay when they raised a torch with cupping hands to form the shape of a heart. Witnessing their love between, people standing along the road burst into cheers.
"With the specially designed movement, we want to show the world our love and send our best wishes to the Beijing Olympic Games," said Liu, a doctor working in Henan.
In 2006, Liu and Wu were selected the first "torchbearer couple" in China and took part in the torch relay at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy.
"We were lovers at that time and the Games did give me abundant sweet memories," said Wu.
Both of them applied to become the Beijing Olympic Games volunteers after returning from Italy.
"We frequented kindergartens, parks and hospitals with Olympics-themed photos and banners over the past two years, to introduce the Games to more people," Wu said.
They even went to Hong Kong and South Africa at their own expenses to publicize the Games.
In 2007, they were selected by the Beijing Organizing Committee of Olympic Games "Top Ten Olympic Families Around the Globe."
"The Olympic Games has brought us together and will always be a testimony of our love," Liu said.
