At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 03, the Yueyang leg of the Beijing Olympic torch relay concluded.
Today's relay started out from one of the most famous buildings in all of China, Yueyang Tower. For a total of 16.9 kilometers, torchbearers carried the sacred flame past important areas in Yueyang (including Yueyang Sports Stadium and Hunan Square), then through the neighboring city of Miluo, finally concluding at the International Dragonboat Racing Center.
The torchbearer who held the flame last was Gan Lin.
Bai Weiguo, a representative of the city of Miluo, gave a brief speech, telling fans that the residents of his city are very happy that they were able to host the torch relay. Miluo citizens will continue to develop, thanks to the opportunities provided by the Olympic torch relay.
Yueyang mayor Huang Langxiang expressed that the relay helped to fulfill the Olympic dreams of her city's residents.
Vice-governor of Hunan Province Liu Liwei also spoke, saying that the relay ignited warmth in the hearts of all of Huanan people.
BOCOG representative Lin Xiaohua pointed out the 2,500 year history of ancient history of Yueyang and the cultural importance of Miluo.
Other BOCOG leaders, including Li Dongsheng and Wang Wei, were present at the ceremony.
In the evening, the sacred flame team headed to Changsha, the capital of Hunan, for its next relay.
