The handicapped world champion Jiang Fuying relayed the Olympic torch which was tied on her disabled arm in Jingzhou city, the last torch relay leg in central China's Hubei province on Monday.
To ensure the relay carrying on smoothly, the organizers prepared a wheelchair and made a special hoop for her to fix up the torch on her arm. However, she refused and insisted running on her own.
"That would be too complicated and can not embody the Olympic spirit. I want to run by myself, for I still have legs!"
After rehearsing for several times, Jiang finally finished her route of the torch relay by tying the torch on her arm.
"You see my handicapped body today and will also see the energy of my life in the next Paralympic Games," she said firmly.
Jiang has no right arm and her left arm is only one third long of normal person. However, no less than 20 years old, she has been a swimming champion, making lots of good results and broke world records in some big games, such as the Athens Paralympic Games, Handicapped World Championship in South Africa.
As for the Beijing Paralympic Games, the girl said she will try her best to win in the 50m Butterfly.
