The 39-year old carried forward his strategy well and dashed out in the 87th lap to take the lead, overlapping the peloton for two times to collet a total of 60 points for the gold.
Leading from the very beginning, American Bobby Lea snatched five points after the first 10 laps. However, it was Germany's Roger Kluge who took the spotlight after leading four cyclists to overlap the peloton to win 20 points apiece.
A gold medallist at the Sydney Games and silver medallist in Athens, LLaneras demonstrated his speed and endurance in the second half, beating Kluge in the 100th and 120th laps to seal his win.
Kluge took the silver with 58 points and Britain's Chris Newton got the bronze on 56.
