Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves on Thursday congratulated China on the complete success of the Beijing Olympic Games when he met with China's new ambassador to his country.
During his meeting with Chinese Ambassador Huang Zhongpo, Ilves also congratulated China for winning 51 gold medals to top the gold medal tally. The president wished China a success in hosting the Sept. 6-17 Paralympic Games.
Ilves hailed the steady development of ties between Estonia and China in recent years, describing China as Estonia's good friend and good partner.
Estonia attaches great importance to its friendly and cooperative relations with China, hoping to enhance exchanges and bilateral cooperation in all fields, he said.
He reiterated that the Estonian government adheres to one-China policy.
The new Chinese ambassador presented his credentials to President Ilves on the same day.
