Taiwan's Kuomintang Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung said the Beijing Olympics was a glorious grand event for the whole Chinese nation as he finished his mainland visit on Friday.
"I cheer for athletes from both the mainland and Taiwan, and I wish a complete success of the Beijing Olympics," Wu told a press conference Friday before boarding the plane from Xiamen to Taipei, ending his ancestral home visit in southeast China's Fujian Province.
Wu was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games. He also met on Aug. 8 with Hu Jintao, the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
During his stay in the mainland, he visited the Chinese Taipei delegation in the Beijing Olympic Village on Aug. 9 and Olympics co-host city Tianjin on August 10.
He watched a baseball preliminary of the Chinese Taipei team on August 13, together with Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
Wu said both sides shall deepen and broaden the mutual communication and exchanges as the cross-Straits relationship already had a good start.
"Mainland tourists to Taiwan will increase after the Olympic Games and weekend charter flights will carry more passengers," Wu said.
"With the increasing respect and goodwill from both sides, a win-win future is predictable."
