Cyclist Wong Kam po has been selected to carry the flag of the Chinese Hong Kong delegation at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, coach Shen Jinkang said on Monday.
"Wong will carry the flag of Chinese Hong Kong at the opening ceremony," Shen told Xinhua.
According to Shen, Wong is training in Shenzhen, a southern city near the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
"Everything runs well, and he is in good spirit. I have confidence in him. Beijing would be his last Olympics, and he will try his best for a good result," Shen said.
Wong, 35, won the first gold medal for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the National Games of China in 1997, and became China's first cycling world champion when he won the 15km scratch in 2007 UCI Track World Championships.
Wong finished fourth in the 2007 UCI B World Championships road race, booking a berth for the 2008 Olympics.
