Uruguayan government sent officers of the National System of Emergencies (SNE) to China in order to watch and learn about security issues in the Olympic Games of Beijing 2008, local press published Sunday.

"We were interested on the organization of the Olympic Games' security" for it being "an event of great magnitude", secretary of the Uruguayan Presidency and general coordinator of the SNE, Jorge Vazquez said, quoted by local press on Sunday.

Vazquez said that "Uruguay in some time would organize an important event" therefore "it's important to have trained people, not only to prevent the security part, but if something happens to have a quick response."

On Saturday, Vazquez inaugurated the Coordinator Center of Emergencies of the department of Durazno, in the center of the country.

Uruguay will participate in Beijing Olympic Games with a delegation of 12 sportsmen in six sports: athletics, cycling, swimming, rowing, regatta archery.
