Three channels of Portugal's Public Radio Television will broadcast 457.5 hours of the Beijing Olympic Games to be opened on August 8, deputy director for information of Radio Television Publica (RTP) Miguel Barroso said Friday.

The broadcasts from the stations of RTP 1, RTP 2 and RTPN together, equivalent to 19 days, will surpass the 17 days of competitions, Barroso said.

Barroso told the press that RTP will give more importance to the broadcast of the Portuguese sportsmen performance.

The finals in which Portuguese sportsmen classify will be broadcasted by the main channel, Barroso said.

Channel RTP 1 will broadcast every day a "Summary of the Olympic day" at 18:00 hrs local time and channel RTP 2 will broadcast at 19:00 hrs.

Information Head of RTP, Jose Alberto Carvalho said that the total hours of broadcast are independent of the ones to be broadcasted by the high definition cable RTP HD, adding that the signal will also be available through cellular phone and internet.

The difference in hours between Portugal and Beijing forced the alteration of the broadcasting of the Olympic Games, Carvalho said.

Director of RTP 2, Jorge Wemnas said the channel will broadcast 182.5 hours of the Games and he said that the opening ceremony will be spectacular.
