Slovenia constituted on Tuesday a delegation numbering 111 people for the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Sixty-two athletes of the Slovenian delegation have achieved the norms to compete in Beijing by the Tuesday deadline set by the International Olympic Committee and the International Athletics Federation, the Slovenian news agency STA reported.

Five of the athletes have already won Olympic medals, including the gold medalists from the 2000 Sydney Olympics, rower Iztok Cop and shooter Rajmond Debevec, while 32 athletes will try their luck in their first Olympics.

Besides the athletes, the rest of the delegation is coaches and other staff.

Slovenia competed in the Summer Olympic Games for the first time at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. It was the first Olympiad after Slovenia seceded from Yugoslavia in 1991.

A total of 79 Slovenian athletes competed in 10 sports at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, securing one silver in rowing and three bronze medals respectively in judo, sailing and women's 800 meters.

Slovenian athletes have won seven golds, eight silvers and 14 bronze medals at summer Olympic Games so far in individual sports plus 11 in team sports. This includes medals won for the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the former Yugoslavia.
