"My belief is this time around, we should have the best Olympic
Games ever," Jappie Mhango, treasurer of Malawian National Olympic
Committee (NOC), told Xinhua News Agency on Thursday.
"When we went to Beijing last August, we went around a number of
facilities, including the national stadium and the one for
shooting. We came to know that Beijing was moving towards the best
competition ever, and I am convinced that China will be able to do
that. " Mhango said in an exclusive interview.
The Malawian NOC official made the statement on the sideline of
Olympic Solidarity Forum preparing a delegation for participation
in the Olympic Games, which was organized and funded by the
International Olympic Committee.
"It is very impressive. As a country, China has made tremendous
progress," the treasurer said.
Mhango said the Beijing authorities have vowed to cut the number
of private vehicles on the streets and offer public transport. "It
will improve the traffic and reduce congestion. Transport will also
be made available to various delegations. I believe the organizers
in charge of transport are doing something commendable, " The
official said.
As for the environment concerns, Mhango said," When we went to
Beijing last time and stayed there for a couple of days, there was
not any problem (on the environment). And now I am back, I still
enjoy good health and nothing is happening. It is not like that
some media have portrayed."
But he reminded Beijing," there is still room for
improvement."
