A self-financed Chinese civilian delegation, which had
previously traveled to 68 countries across the world, has arrived
in Egypt for promoting Beijing 2008 Olympics.
The team of common people led by Beijinger Cao Dafo, carried out
their promotion activities for Beijing Olympics on Wednesday at the
Giza Pyramids in the suburb of the Egyptian capital city of Cairo,
introducing Beijing Olympics to the tourists and attracting much
attention among them.
Earlier in the day, Cao made a speech at the Chinese Culture
Center in Cairo to a group of overseas Chinese in Egypt, saying "we
are trying our best to publicize Beijing Olympics as common people
of the hosting country of the 2008 Games."
President of the Egyptian Olympics Committee Mounir Sabet held a
meeting with Cao on Wednesday afternoon.
Sabet welcomed the arrival of the Chinese civilian delegation
and signed a signature on the flag designed by the delegation for
promoting Beijing Games.
Cao said the goal of his promotion activities, which was
initially launched in 2001 after Beijing winning the bid for the
2008 Olympics, is to visit 100 countries before the opening
ceremony of the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
"I'm sure my delegation will reach the goal to visit 100
countries before the opening ceremony of the Games," said Cao.
After visiting Egypt, Cao's team will travel to other African
countries including Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
