Anete's layup delivers Latvia 79-78 win over Brazil

Anete Jekabsone-Zogota made the game-winning layup with 2.7 seconds left to help Latvia beat Brazil 79-78 on Wednesday in the women's basketball competitions at the Beijing Olympic Games.

The last three minutes witnessed six leading exchanges before Anete, who had 25 points, delivered Latvia (2-1) the first win in the tournament.

Adriana Pinto, who had 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists, managed a shot on the buzzer but the ball kissed the back of the basket and bounced off.

Karen Rocha buried a 3-pointer to put Brazil (0-3) ahead 78-77 with 7.5 seconds to go.

Brazil led as many as 12 points in the first half, but let Latvia cut it off with five consecutive 3-pointers in the third quarter to close it on 59-57.

Ieva Tare usurped the lead for Latvia with a three-point play at the start of the fourth quarter to make it 62-61.
