The Chinese men's water polo team fought all out against the United States in its first match at the Beijing Olympics Sunday but lost the game 4-8.

Tony Azevedo led the U.S. team with five goals in his eight shots. Layne Beaubien and Jesse Smith added another three. Chinese player Wang Beiming scored two points for his team. Liang Zhongxin and Xie Junmin added another two.

"I am not diasspointed. As a matter of fact, the gap between us and the United States is wider than the result," head coach Wang Minhui said.

Wang said the Chinese team didn't start well in the match. "We did pretty well in the second session and got tied with the U.S.. But our players got too tired in the last two sessions and missed some good chances."

Wang said the goal of his team is to enter the top ten. "But I think it is very difficult."

Early on Sunday, reigning Olympic champion Hungary tied Montenegro 10-10. Spain crushed Canada 16-6. Serbia upset Germany 11-7. Australia defeated Greece 12-8 and Crotia beat Italy 11-7.
