China's gold medal hopefuls:
Athletics - men's 110m hurdles; diving - women's 10m platform
|
Liu Xiang |
On this day, millions of Chinese people will fix their eyes on one person - China's 110-meter hurdles star Liu Xiang. Liu became China's first male Olympic champion in athletics when he tied Colin Jackson's world record of 12.91 seconds to win the 110m hurdles final at the Athens Games in 2004. Four years on, the 24-year-old is viewed as the host country's sole hope for a gold medal in track and field. The new world record holder, Cuban Dayron Robles, will challenge Liu's dominance in this event. No matter who wins, the audience will surely enjoy a fantastic final.
China's diving team has not won a gold medal in the women's 10-meter platform since Fu Mingxia clinched the title in Atlanta 1996. Today, Wang Xin and Chen Ruolin will try to breakthrough and reclaim China's supremacy in this event.
