The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX
Olympiad (BOCOG) has selected a total of 826 Games-time interns and
put their training on its agenda.
This was revealed from a meeting in Beijing on Tuesday, which
deals with the arrangement of the training work.
In September 2005, BOCOG signed a Memorandum of Understanding
with 16 Beijing-based universities and colleges to jointly train
706 Games-time interns with an aim to meet the Games-time demand
for various specialized personnel. Recently 120 interns were added
to the list following a review of the plan.
The 826 interns include 590 post-graduate students, 94
university and college students and 142 polytechnic school
students. Their entry is a result of the joint effort by the
Beijing Municipal Education Commission, BOCOG departments which
need more hands and related education institutions. The interns are
required to go through a number of basic and professional subjects
before participating in the preparatory work for the Olympics for a
period of six months to one year.
Zhu Shanlu, member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing
Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China in charge of
the capital city's education, said the work with the interns can
better nurture the team involved in Olympic preparations and can
enhance the on-going educational reform in Beijing's higher
education institutions.
