Piano Recital - Li Yundi

Dubbed as "Prince of the Piano," Li Yundi was the youngest-ever player to win the International Federick Chopin Competition in 2000 at the tender age of 18. For his Christmas concert, program includes Chopin's "Mazurka Op. 33," Liszt's "Ballade: No. 2 in B Minor," Alban Berg's "Sonata Op. 1," Ravel's "Jeux d' eau" and Mussorgsky's "Picture at an Exhibition."

Viola Legend

Ukraine-born Yuri Bashmet, the only viola player who won a Grammy Award, will team up with his Moscow Soloists orchestra for a Christmas concert. Bashmet, dubbed as "the Paganini of viola,"  is the only viola soloist who played at the La Scala opera house over the past century. For the Shanghai concert, he and his ensemble will play works of Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Bach, Grieg and Stravinsky.

 

Nutcracker

The Christmas ballet will be staged by Tara Shevchenko National Opera and Ballet Theater from Ukraine. The troupe is one of the oldest musical theaters in Russia. Shanghai Opera House Symphony Orchestra will provide the accompaniment.
